PREGNANCY OR PRENATAL MASSAGE

You are going to have a baby, congratulations! But all the thoughts about sleepless nights and not having a moment to yourself are creeping up. Also, the reality is, you are carrying a baby, so your aching body need some loving. Now is your time to consider a day of pamper and indulgence including a pregnancy massage also known as prenatal massage. Not only does pregnancy massage ease your tired muscles but it also decreases stress and anxiety as well as swelling. It is also reported that it will ease labour and delivery when you go for regular massages during your pregnancy.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PREGNANCY MASSAGE?

Very importantly, before you consider a pregnancy massage, you have to chat to your gynaecologist first to get the go ahead. It is not advised to do a pregnancy massage in your first trimester and if you are a high risk case. So, let your doctor make the right decision for you.

Also, be very sure that your therapist is a qualified pregnancy/prenatal massage therapist. A qualified pregnancy/prenatal therapist will be trained in knowing exactly how you should be positioned during your massage and know which parts of your body is safe to be massaged during pregnancy. You will lie on your side with pillows and wedges to accommodate your belly and keep you as comfortable as possible. It will start with your therapist administering massage with light pressure in all the safe areas. They should avoid your abdomen. If you have any concerns before or during your massage, do voice it immediately.

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER A PREGNANCY MASSAGE?

In most cases, ladies do feel  relaxed and will experience a really great sleep after.  Some ladies leave their massage appointments energised and ready to tackle the day. I think I’ll rather put up my feet and relax instead. It’s hard work “growing” a human  :)
